Martin Mathathi and Lucy Kabuu win Great North Run

Martin Mathathi and Lucy Kabuu win Great North Run 19th September 2011 – With world class performances Martin Mathathi (KEN) and Lucy Kabuu (KEN) took the 2011 Great North Run titles in wet and chilly conditions in Newcastle. World Championships 5th placer Mathathi clocked a course record time of 58:56 to win the men’s race and become the 5th fastest ever athlete for the 21.1km distance. Kabuu ran a solo 67:06 which was the third fastest time in the history of this race and the 6th fastest woman in the history of the event. Micah Kogo (KEN) placed 4th in the men’s race in 60:03.

Doris Changeywo (KEN) won the Porto Half Marathon in 70:36 ahead of Dolce Felix (POR).

At the 2011 Tangers meeting in Morocco Jemma Simpson (GBR) won the 800m in 2:02 and Gideon Gathimba (KEN) won the 3000m in 7:50.
