Linet Masai wins Course de l’Escalade

Linet Masai wins Course de l’Escalade Switzerland, 4th December 2010 – World 10,000m Champion Linet Masai (KEN) was a convincing winner of the 33rd Course de l’Escalade in Geneva. The 20 year old clocked 14:46 for the 4.8km course to win by 31 secs from Caroline Chepkwony. Mike Kigen placed 2nd in the men’s race in 19:35, 8 secs behind winner and fellow Kenyan Paul Kipkorir.

In the 5th Athletics Kenya weekend cross country meeting in Kisii Commonwealth 10,000m Champion Grace Momanyi (KEN) placed 2nd in a close finish in the women’s 6km race. The local favourite looked to be in control of the race as she hit the front with 800m to go but was unable to shake off Frankfurt marathon champion Caroline Kilel as they sprinted to the tape together, “I came here without much training and now I know what I need to do to realise my dream of returning to the World Cross next year beginning with some speed. Congratulations to her (Chepkwony), she ran a good race and that is the kind of competition one needs to properly gauge their strength,” Momanyi told reporters after the race.
