Saif Shaheen to miss IAAF World Championships
10th July 2007 - Double World 3000mSC Champion and World Record holder Saif Shaheen (QAT) announced today that he will be forced to miss the IAAF World T&F Championships in Osaka due to a knee injury. The 24 year old had planned to run the 3000mSC and 5000m in Osaka but has been bothered by a knee injury for the past few months,
"I am disappointed not to get a chance to make it 3 World titles in a row but I have to be sensible and let my knee rest so that I can prepare for the Olympic Games next year. I was in very good shape before the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene but I hurt my knee during a track session and was forced to miss this race and also the IAAF meetings in Ostrava and Athens."
Shaheen has been training on and off since then but has not been able to get the quality work done that would enable him to defend his title. A recent visit to the world famous German sports doctor, Dr. Müller-Wohlfahrt, in Munich confirmed that there is no permanent damage to his knee but a few weeks rest now will clear the problem and let him get back into full training later in the season.
