Abraham Chebii wins Ireland 10k
15th April 2007 - Abraham Chebii (KEN) showed a return to his best form with a 13 seconds victory in the Great Bupa Ireland Road Race in the Phonex Park, Dublin. The World Cross Country silver medallist took command of the race at 5k and gradually wound up the pace comfortably coming clear of runner-up Craig Mottram (AUS) and 3rd placer Chema Martinez (ESP) and 4th placer Sergey Lebed (UKR) in the final 3km to stop the clock at 28:47. Chebii told reporters after the race, "The conditions were great for me so I decided to put some pressure on the field by winding up the pace fairly early. Only Mottram managed to go with me and then at 7K, I realised I was really hurting him and managed to pull away."
Elsewhere Francis Kipketer (KEN) placed 6th in the Paris Marathon in a new personal best time of 2:10.47.
