Perri Shakes-Drayton wins European Double Gold
3rd March 2013 – 400mH specialist Perri Shakes-Drayton (GBR) took 400m and 4x400m gold medals in the European Indoor T&F Championships in Gothenburg. In the 400m the Chris Zah clocked a world leading personal best time of 50.85 secs. She was joined by Olympic gold and silver medalist Christine Ohuruogu in the 4x400m as they helped GBR to a Championship Record 3:27.56.
After an impressive indoor season Shakes-Drayton went into the Championships as 400m favourite and delivered a sublime performance to add European Indoor senior gold to the European U23 400mH title she won in 2009. The girl who took silver in 2009 Eilidh Child also took silver today to make it a British 1-2. Perri’s performances moves her to the 3rd fastest ever by a British athlete behind Nicola Sanders and Katherine Merry.
In the long jump Chris Tomlinson produced a solid series with four jumps over 7.91m and a best of 7.95m to finish 7th.
